Job Description

Transport Planner – Grays

As a Transport Planner, your role is to provide a delivery plan which maximises the utilisation of the company fleet, whilst meeting customers’ expectations. Control the use of sub-contractors to ensure that they are used correctly, and all costs are controlled and justified.

 What is in it for you?

 Salary of £30,000 - £35,000 Per Annum

Monday to Friday 9:00am -17:00pm

Key Accountabilities

  • Managing customer enquiries by phone and email/orders and loading them onto the system.
  • Booking and tracking transport for the internal and subcontracted drivers, ensuring this is done efficiently and professionally.
  • Ensuring loads and transport are efficiently planned.
  • Optimise the use of all customers’ delivery windows to help increase vehicle utilisation.
  • Sourcing and communicating transport sub-contractors.
  • Responding to customer enquiries, providing quotations, and keeping them updated as to the progress of deliveries.
  • Assist in the closing out job files by obtaining POD and any other required information (Purchase orders, SPTR references etc), and scanning documents onto the system.
  • Reviewing routes and suppliers to ensure transport is planned cost-effectively and to maximise profitability.
  • Producing weekly KPIs as directed by your Line Manager.
  • Ensuring clear and accurate communication with all UK warehouse’s so they are aware of returns and outgoing loads and can plan to manufacture effectively.
  • Create a delivery plan which is achievable whilst working within all legislation requirements, including WTD, tachos.
  • Ensure planning works in conjunction with maintenance for different vehicle types
  • Ensuring paperwork is filed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Managing priorities to achieve desired results and deadlines
  • Liaison with Operations, Accounts and all UK depots
  • Leading by example with a self-motivated, "can do" approach to achieving requirements & targets
  • Maintenance of system data and its integrity
  • Any other tasks deemed reasonable by Line Manger

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Experience within an Administration role.
  • Previously worked within a fast pace office environment
  • UK geographical and postcodes knowledge
  • Proven experience in UK Transport planning/routing
  • Diary Management
  • Managing administrative processes.
  • Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, MS Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Good typing and keyboard skills.
  • GCSE English and Maths – Grade  C or above (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Flexible approach to workload with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Tanker transport experience
  • Knowledge of Drivers Hours Legislation
  • Knowledge of RTD Legislation
  • Will be working with Shoretrec / Ortec Route Scheduling System (same or similar experience desired)
  • Will be working with Sage L500 or X3 Order Entry experience (same or similar experience desired)
