Metal Work Manager

Basildon, Essex up to £60k plus bens

Are you looking for a new role and have previous experience managing a team of 5-10 in a Metal workshop environment providing technical support for design, production and procurement departments?

The role

This role will involve working with internal teams and also with external suppliers and Clients therefore excellent communication skills are key.

The primary goal will be to ensure our clients commitment to complete every project it undertakes on time and on budget, ensuring the team of highly skilled metalworkers fabricate, manufacture and assemble components to details provided within production drawings including coordinating and supporting all metal work requirements for all projects ensuring they are managed effectively with maximum productivity and output, whilst meeting programme constraints.


  • Continually review forecasted workloads undertaking forward planning to ensure resources and materials are available, prior to works commencing in the metalwork workshop
  • Plan and prioritise works to be undertaken on a regular basis ensuring project delivery date are achieved
  • Regularly monitoring quality control procedures to ensure metal components are produced to the exact specification and standard quality expected
  • Promptly communicate any design revisions or project programme updates to ensure staff are informed, enabling latest amendments to be implemented and resources managed accordingly
  • To continually monitor and evaluate processes, proactively implementing improvements required to establish efficiency gains and best practise
  • Working with the Estimating team at bid/job stage to support the estimating for metal requirements as and when required identifying any potential metal work challenges with solutions
  • Attending project handover meeting to understand metal work needs for each project as and when required
  • Working with the design team as and when required to ensure metal requirements are incorporated and meet best practise including most efficient processes for manufacture.
  • Developing and maintain an effective metal tracking procedure to ensure all metal work is traceable/locatable and available to be delivered in line with project delivery requirements
  • Supporting the buying team providing guidance for external manufacture and raw materials procurement.
  • Liaising with existing suppliers and establishing new suppliers to ensure effective cost and quality control
  • Ensuring that the delivery of all metal is constantly in line with project requirements.
  • Identifying risks and bringing them to the attention of production manager with possible solutions as and when
  • Complete all mandatory Health and Safety training and any corporate refresher training where required
  • Pro-active in Health & Safety ensuring safe working practises are adhered and comply with Provisions and Use of Work Equipment Regulations1998 (PUWER)
  • Ensure full understanding and adherence to the General data Protection Regulations
  • Coordinate Planned and Preventive Maintenance for all workshop machinery and equipment
  • Ensure full understanding and adherence to all other relevant statutory regulations
  • Implement and maintain a housekeeping programme to ensure employees are always operating in an efficient, tidy, and safe working environment.
